The 1911 Highland Lass (front), due to be removed from Oamaru Harbour on Sunday, will be restored to its original "open boat" form by its new owner, Peter Thorn, helped by  fellow members of Oamaru’s Friendly Bay Boat Society.

Mr Thorn removed  the top structure  last weekend and  plans to  remove the engine and rudders after the boat is taken out of  Oamaru Harbour.

Highland Lass, once used   for moving stock and transporting deer hunters, would be the fourth boat removed from the harbour this year,  Otago Regional Council harbourmaster Geraint Bermingham said. It would be the second boat identified as unseaworthy to be removed this month.

No other  boats needing  to be removed from the harbour have been identified.
