Community gardens expands working bees

Waitaki Community Gardens has expanded its public working bees so anyone in the community can come along to the gardens and work together on seasonal growing projects under the guidance of experienced garden manager Ra McRostie.

The Waitaki Community Gardens’ working bees are on Tuesdays from 11am-1pm and Thursdays 1pm-3pm as well as the first Saturdays of each month from 1pm-3pm (weather dependent).

The working bees are the chance for anyone in the community — adults, children, seniors, teens, experienced gardeners and newbies — to meet friendly people, engage in meaningful work, learn to garden and get access to fresh produce.

Volunteers are invited to take a share of the harvest or other goodies from the garden, depending on the season.

The vegetable and flower gardens, orchard, food forest and native plantings are all managed without industrial chemical input and are always open to the public for visits.

The garden can be accessed on foot from the west end of the Public Gardens on the A2O track, or from the Oamaru Dog Park carpark.
