Fire and ambulance are attending an incident of a diver in distress at Shag Point.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said just after 5pm they were called to a diver in distress.

One appliance from Palmerston attended the incident off the Hampden-Palmerston Rd.

A police spokeswoman said police were not at the scene but had received a report of a water rescue at Shag Point.
