A burst water pipe in Kurow on Friday night caused flooding to a business and affected part of the main roading network in town, the local fire brigade chief says.
The Kurow Volunteer Fire Brigade was called to Liverpool St about 9.30pm after an underground water pipe cracked and water seeped to the surface through the tarseal, creating a road hazard.
Chief John Sturgeon said when water got to the top of the road it froze in parts.
''At that stage it was about 2degC. It was damn cold.''
To minimise the flooding of Hakataramea Motors, brigade members relieved the pressure on the pipe by opening up fire hydrants at the bottom end of Liverpool St and in Kurow-Duntroon Rd.
The brigade ran traffic and water management until contractor SouthRoads arrived about midnight, Mr Sturgeon said. The water was shut off.
The brigade helped the owner of Hakataramea Motors to mop out the flooded premises, Mr Sturgeon said.
