Palmerston’s Kacey Clark received the Queen’s Guide Award from the New Zealand Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro last weekend.

The award is the organisation’s highest and involves setting and completing five challenges around personal development, guiding, community action, leadership and social experience.

Guides have a three-year period to complete all assignments for the medal. Kacey completed it while still studying at East Otago High School.

"It was an honour to be able to go up to Wellington and receive my Queen’s Guide Award from the Governor-General," Kacey said.

"It has been a dream of mine to receive this award for 13 years from when I first started out as a Pippin in Girl Guiding. I finished my guiding journey as a ranger, which has given me many life skills.

"An amazing part of this experience was being able to celebrate with other Rangers across Aotearoa who have achieved the Queen’s Guide Award and gone through the Guiding journey as well.

"While at Government House we were privileged to be able to have a look around and see the history of New Zealand and the British Royal Family. I also loved looking around Wellington, the capital of New Zealand."
