"Better than expected in the current climate" was how real estate agent Mike Beresford, of CBRE real estate company, described the interest so far.
The 231ha estate went on the market last month, being offered by its owners since 1988, Nathan and Charles Tomkins.
Mr Beresford said interest in the property had come from within New Zealand and overseas, with several prospective buyers inspecting it.
The property consists of the historic estate and many period support buildings, in a park-like setting, including the homestead, stables, a large restored villa and a "cave", where first owner William Dansey lived.
