
The 62-year-old, who has interim name suppression, appeared in the Oamaru District Court yesterday.
The incident occurred when the man parked his vehicle in Waterfront Rd about 4pm on May 24, a police summary of facts read.
A member of the public then pulled up beside the defendant’s vehicle along with two young children in the car.
The member of the public looked over and saw the defendant had his pants down to his knees and was masturbating.
He then reversed back and parked somewhere else as his children could see what the man was doing.
He confronted the defendant, who continued masturbating.
The defendant then swore at the member of the public and pulled up his pants.
When spoken to by police, the defendant made no explanation for his behaviour.
He will be sentenced in September.
