Police appeal for help on arson

Arson attacks on three cars in Kurow on Wednesday night have prompted an appeal from police for the local community to help with information.

The cars - two in the main street (Gordon St) and one in Wynyard St - were set alight shortly after 11pm.

Six officers were in Kurow yesterday conducting scene examinations and inquiries.

Detective Sergeant Mike Ryder said the Kurow fire brigade was called out about 11.30pm on Wednesday to one of the fires.

One of the fire officers saw another car ablaze in Wynyard St on his way to the fire station.

A Holden Commodore parked in Gordon St was extensively damaged by fire, while a Nissan four-wheel-drive in Gordon St and a Ford in Wynyard St suffered moderate to serious damage.

All three fires started in the interiors of the cars but investigations were continuing into what was used to start them, he said.

Det Sgt Ryder believed all three fires were linked, but until further inquiries were made it was not known if the owners of the vehicles were linked.

The people of Kurow have been asked to help police with any information they might have about any incidents in the main street, Wynyard St or the town after 11pm on Wednesday night.

"The key is local people and we need them to report anything which may be out of place, even if it appears trivial," Det Sgt Ryder said.

In particular, police would like to speak with two young men seen in the Wynyard St area about 11pm on Wednesday, one of whom was wearing "a bright, identifiable top".
