The East Otago Health Centre in  Palmerston is almost halfway to completion.

Stevenson and Williams foreman for the $1 million construction of the centre Mike Hood, of Dunedin, is pictured updating  East Otago Health Trust chairwoman Mary O’Connell  about the project. Almost $1million has been raised from a range of trusts and from the Palmerston and East Otago community.

The roof was on and the windows were in and the electricians and plumbing subcontractors had started work, Mr  Hood  said this week. The East Otago Health Trust had  raised $981,000, Mrs O’Connell said. There was only $19,000 to go to reach the target but  further donations would be welcomed.

It was hoped  the building would be handed over in August or September, Mrs O’Connell said.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

You can help us continue to bring you local news you can trust by becoming a supporter.
