Police are warning drivers to take care and if possible to delay travel between Omarama and Twizel after a crash between a car and a truck on 'an extremely icy road' this morning.
Emergency services were called out about 7am to the scene, about 5km north of Omarama near the intersection of Prohibition Rd, Senior Sergeant Brian Benn, of Dunedin, said.
Overnight rain had turned to ice in freezing conditions this morning, making the road surface extremely slippery, he said.
There was no word of injuries, and it was expected the road would be cleared quickly, but he urged drivers to take care, and to delay travel through that stretch if possible.
