Brian Sargent is on the road again.

The 59-year-old Ashburton man is driving through the South Island on a tractor, towing a caravan, raising money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Last year, he made a similar trip.

The 1961 John Deere 2010 tractor, which travelled at 22kmh, was very comfortable, Mr Sargent said on Thursday during a stop in Oamaru.

He has had several operations since being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007 and he hoped his trip would raise awareness of the disease.

Mr Sargent left Ashburton on Monday and will travel as far south as Invercargill before heading north by an inland route to Christchurch, and then back to Ashburton, arriving home on May 23.
