Police are seeking help from the public following a large "unexplained" vegetation fire near Waitaki Boys' High School this morning.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said they responded to the fire just before 9am.

A parent told the Otago Daily Times that some students were evacuated from the school.
Four fire trucks were on the scene with all firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and another four were deployed.

Waitaki Boys' High School posted a statement to Facebook thanking emergency services for their work containing the fire.
Sergeant Tony Woodbridge. of Oamaru, said the fire would be treated as unexplained.
He asked if the public had any information or any footage of the early portion of the fire to get in touch with police.
