Two new trustees have been elected to the board of the Oamaru Whitestone Civic Trust, which owns and operates 17 historic buildings in Oamaru, most in the Harbour and Tyne Sts historic precinct.

Six people sought three vacancies on the board. Former trust chairman Phil Hope was the highest polling candidate, with Allan Dick and Keith Stevens filling the other two vacancies.

Unsuccessful candidates were Donna Ogilvy (Demente), Richard Vinbrux and Graham Keep.

Apart from Mr Hope, votes between the other candidates were close, with a 76% return from trust members.

Mr Hope is an Oamaru lawyer who has been a member of the trust since it was established in 1989 and was chairman from 2008 to last year.

Mr Dick has been a member since last year after shifting from Auckland. He is editor of NZ Today, founder of Classic Driver, a motoring journalist and former talkback host.

Mr Stevens has been a trust member since last year and is a business owner-general manager. He spent 10 years in Shanghai and, more recently, in Queenstown, The other two vacancies were for Graeme Martin, who stood down, and Scott Elliffe, who resigned last year.

Board members who continue in office are chairman Marcus Brown, Graeme Clark, Peter Garvan and Bruce Petry.
