Christchurch-based company RMTW Watersports Ltd has applied for resource consent to establish a commercial boating operation on Lake Wakatipu, involving sightseeing, wakeboarding and biscuiting.
The resource consent application said the boat - initially proposed to be a 6m long, V hull "Malibu Wakesetter" - would be based at O'Reagans Wharf near Lake Esplanade, and would operated between 8am and 9.30pm "seven days a week through the year".
Trips would be within the main part of Lake Wakatipu, with several exceptions.
Those included inside Queenstown Bay from One Mile Creek to the "green beacon" where use would be limited; the outlet of Lake Wakatipu, extending to "the willow tree island"; any of the tributary streams or rivers; and the Shotover and Kawarau Rivers.
"The boating activity will include one powered vessel that will carry out sightseeing trips, wakeboarding and rides from inflatable craft towed behind the vessel."
Each trip would have a maximum capacity of six people - the driver, a staff member and four passengers.
The application said approval had been sought from Kai Tahu Ki Otago Ltd; Ngai Tahu; Department of Conservation; Otago Fish and Game; Ngai Tahu Property Ltd; and Real Journeys.
