Work started on Monday, October 29, to resurface sections of State Highway 6A, the main route in and out of Queenstown, which is used by 15,000 vehicles a day.
The road is managed by the New Zealand Transport Agency and the work involves repairing and asphalting surfaces on a section of Stanley St, between Ballarat and Shotover Sts, and includes two busy roundabouts.
Part of the work also involved asphalting the Goldfields Heights and Hensman Rd intersections on Frankton Rd.
In October, New Zealand Transport Agency area manager John Jarvis said the entire job was expected to be completed by December 7.
The McChesney Bridge at Arthurs Point was reduced to one lane on Friday and the same is planned for today to allow a specialised machine to inject a mixture of hot water, bitumen and cement into the road, a process called foam bitumen stabilising.
Temporary road closures on Arthurs Point Rd on Friday were also implemented for the foam bitumen stabilising and closures are again planned for this Friday.
A Queenstown Lakes District Council public notice said motorists can expect 15- to 20-minute delays between 6pm and 9pm on the evenings of the closures.
At the same time, Chorus is installing fibre-optic cables underground in urban Queenstown as part of the Government's national ultrafast broadband initiative.
Fibre cables are being installed along the street using existing ducts, or new ones are being dug.
Before Chorus starts work in a particular area, it generally delivers fliers to residents advising what the work involves.
