Strengthening work will be carried out on the Kawarau bridge, opposite the A. J. Hackett Bungy site at Gibbston, from next week.
New Zealand Transport Agency regional communications adviser Bob Nettleton said the bridge, on State Highway 6 near Queenstown, would be reduced to one lane from Monday.
Traffic lights would control the single lane over the bridge 24 hours a day.
Between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday, traffic delays of up to 30 minutes, three times a day, could be expected as strengthening work was carried out.
"The bridge will be open to traffic on the hour every hour between 9am and 3pm."
Minor traffic disruptions would continue until the work was completed, expected to be towards the end of June.
Traffic restrictions were expected to be lifted during Queen's Birthday weekend.
