Dixon mistrial declared

Queenstown bouncer Jonathan Dixon may have to wait until next year for a new jury trial, after a mistrial was declared at the Invercargill District Court yesterday.

The mistrial, when a trial is called off during proceedings, was declared by Judge Kevin Philips, after evidence was heard from complainant Jordan Sinke.

Judge Philips suppressed his reasons for declaring a mistrial yesterday, and Dixon was remanded on bail to September 20, for a pre-trial callover.

In late January, Dixon was charged with assault and causing grievous bodily harm after an altercation outside Queenstown night club Subculture that left Mr Sinke in an induced coma.

The 41-year-old Queenstown bouncer was also charged with assaulting Thomas Beatson on the same night.

Dixon was already on bail at the time, after appearing on charges of accessing a computer system and dishonestly obtaining video surveillance footage of England rugby player Mike Tindall and a woman in a bar in September, during the Rugby World Cup.

The trial for these charges was likely to be held in December, also in Invercargill.
