Drone crashes into Queenstown hotel

A man who crashed a remote-controlled quadcopter into a Queenstown hotel and then left the scene may have been too embarrassed to retrieve it, police say.

Senior Constable Chris Blackford said the man was seen flying the aircraft in Earnslaw Park with friends on Tuesday evening, shortly before it crashed into the Peppers Beacon hotel.

The damaged aircraft was recovered by a hotel employee and handed in to police yesterday.

The DJI Phantom quadcopter, which has a camera attached, is worth about $1500.
