Gym tenants sought

Landlords of the building that housed now-defunct downtown gym Pulse Fitness are looking for another gym business to take its place.

Locations' real estate commercial specialist, Marty Barwood, said the landlords were looking for new tenants for the Memorial St space after the sudden and unexpected closure of the gym on December 23.

"They may possibly make it slightly smaller and part of the floor may be leased out as office space and the remainder as a gym," Mr Barwood said.

"Because of the competition that now exists in Queenstown and Frankton for this type of business, it may well be that it is too large. So it may be necessary to lease out a portion of the gym as office or for some other usage."

He said no potential tenants had been forthcoming yet, which might be because of the time of year.

"The town has plenty of people that may think of moving to Queenstown and setting up a new business, so it is a busy time, but for most larger businesses I find the decision-makers are usually enjoying time off."

Director of Fight Science training centre Braden Lee said there would be no room for another gym in Queenstown as there was already an oversupply in the fitness market.

"If someone comes in with a huge point of difference, then maybe. But the gyms here have the working capital behind them, so it would basically be a hobby for someone to come in and have a downtown gym," Mr Lee said.
