A crowd of more than 350 were thrilled by the physical action and showmanship of Queenstown's first pro wrestling event on Saturday.
The show was staged inside - and outside - a six-by-six-metre wrestling ring installed at the Queenstown Gardens ice rink, minus the ice.
The six-bout show was put on by Southern Pro Wrestling NZ, a non-profit club set up by wrestlers Marc Perry, of Queenstown, and Troy Crosbie, of Invercargill.
A fight between Perry, also known as Hooligan Marcus Kool, and Crosbie, aka Powerhouse T-Rex, was billed as the show's main event after Perry lost to the Southlander in his home city in August.
Playing to the hostile crowd, Crosbie initially refused to fight, saying he had nothing to prove.
Perry upped the ante by challenging Crosbie to a ''no rules'' bout, which he accepted.
Perry then won the brutal rematch, which saw chairs swung and Crosbie shoved through a table.
In another feature bout, a two-man New Zealand team defeated their Australian counterparts to retain the New Zealand tag team championship title.
Perry said he could not be happier with the show.
''The atmosphere was just incredible. Everyone was just really loud and into it and seemed to be having a good time.''
