The bright orange cones which have cluttered part of State Highway 6 near Queenstown for almost a year will be largely gone by the end of this week.
Work on the New Zealand Transport Agency's $7.5 million contract on one section of the highway, between Glenda Dr and the new Five Mile development, began at the end of January.
A temporary detour through Glenda Dr will be closed tomorrow morning to enable the last section of the work to be completed.
When that road reopens it will be called Hardware Lane.
All traffic would flow through the two new roundabouts on the highway - traffic accessing Glenda Dr will be diverted through the roundabout connecting to the Eastern Access Rd.
The 80kmh speed limit will to be reinstated, except for a small section near Place-makers, which would have a temporary 50kmh speed limit.
Meanwhile, another new roundabout at the intersection of Shotover Country and Lower Shotover Rd, is also nearing completion.
SouthRoads contractors will be asphalting the $2 million roundabout this week, which is expected to be operational next week, in time for the busy Christmas and New Year period.
The 40m-diameter roundabout - paid for by Shotover Country developers Sharyn and Grant Stalker - will have two through lanes and single lanes at Lower Shotover Rd and a realigned Stalker Rd.
