The donation consisted of a pallet of canned tomatoes, as well as onions, pumpkins, pasta, breakfast cereal and cans of baked beans and spaghetti.
Mr Gough said KiwiHarvest made daily collections of excess food from Pak’nSave, but the Kings’ one-and-a-half-tonne consignment had gone "above and beyond" by including items his organisation did not usually receive.
He was "hugely grateful" for the food, which had already been distributed to the 17 charities KiwiHarvest supported across the region.
Those charities had been excited to receive the food "at a time of year when some of them are dealing with record numbers of people".
The Kings have supported KiwiHarvest since its launch in 2012, including through weekly store donations and a public donation trolley.
