Former Clutha-Southland member of Parliament Todd Barclay's new job has brought him back to Queenstown this week.

Mr Barclay, who resigned at the general election due to a taping scandal involving a staff member, has started a job in London with the Japanese owners of Queenstown's Millbrook Resort, the Ishii family.

He is international business affairs secretary for the family's Japanese design and software company, Too Corporation.

The company, originally Japan's largest art supplier, has been in the family since 1919.

Mr Barclay enjoyed being the local MP but was ''loving getting settled in my new role where I can still maintain a strong link back to Queenstown and New Zealand through Millbrook.''

Eiichi Ishii founded Millbrook in the early 1990s. Almost two years ago he was made an honorary member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to golf, tourism and New Zealand-Japan relations.

Mr Barclay - Parliament's first MP born in the 1990s, when elected in 2014 - formerly owned an apartment opposite Millbrook, but sold it before moving to London.
