Braving the cold

Forty-five swimmers, some without wetsuits, endured 8°C waters to take part in the annual Whakatipu Legend Winter Swim on Saturday morning.

Competitors attempted to swim the 500m Queenstown foreshore course either once or twice.

Overall winner of the 500m swim was Allen Shen in a time of 8min 53.8sec.

The fastest woman to complete the 500m was Ruby Kite, in 9min 6.3sec.

The fastest time in the 1000m event was set by Jackson Arlidge, who, despite not wearing a wetsuit, completed the course in 15min 1.5sec.

The fastest woman in the longer distance was Stephanie Woodrow,with a time of 16 min 31.0sec.
