Teenage Queenstown girls anxiously waited for hours at the resort's airport yesterday amid rumours boys from the band One Direction could be visiting.

Two of the girls were Brooklyn Middleton (left) and Annabel Dickson (both 17), who arrived at 10am after four days in Wellington only to station themselves near arrivals for a possible second chance to see the band.

By checking social media, they had become almost certain at least two of the band members were flying to Queenstown.

Waiting with other hopeful fans, Annabel said: "There's very little chance they will be here ...but we don't really want to leave in case they do come."

One Direction did not appear in Queenstown yesterday.
