Queenstown dominated teams shone at the recent national Gaelic champs in Wellington which 73 local Gaels club players attended.

In Gaelic football, the senior women’s and men’s sides won hard-fought finals against teams from Auckland’s Marist Rangers by eight and 11 points, respectively — it’s the first time the teams have taken out national titles simultaneously.

The Queenstown teams’ pace, fitness and skill proved decisive.

In their final, the Queenstown-dominated Barbarians hurling team — comprising 11 local players, four from Christchurch and two from Hamilton — beat Auckland by nine points to take out their second consecutive national title.

Again their skill and physicality made the winning difference.
