Local Govt, businesses to support tourists to self-isolate

Visitors to the Queenstown Lakes district are being offered ‘‘self-isolation-friendly’’ accommodation, and the district council is acting as intermediary.

Council spokesman Jack Barlow said as part of its efforts to support Public Health South in its efforts to suppress the spread of Covid-19, it had contacted accommodation providers throughout the district to identify where travellers could self-isolate.

So far, two property management companies and six hotel, motel or serviced apartment providers in Queenstown were offering such accommodation.

In Wanaka, two motels were doing the same.

Those providers’ details were being listed on the council’s website, Mr Barlow said.

The website also had an online form for service providers willing to help people in self-isolation; services included food, deliveries and transport..

People can also self-isolate in a fully self-contained camper van, but cannot interact with other campers, such as using shared facilities.
