Thefts from cars prompt warning

Police are urging people to lock their vehicles after a spate of thefts in Arrowtown.

Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown, said property was taken from three cars on McDonnell Rd on Wednesday evening and from a fourth vehicle the night before on the same road.

All the vehicles were unlocked.

Police were called on Wednesday evening after a resident heard a car alarm go off, and saw a man trying car doors and carrying items.

The suspect was not found, but three vehicles were "entered and rummaged through", Sgt Watt said.

Two of the vehicles had been parked on driveways and one on the road.

"People need to take charge of their own security," he said.
