David Fountain.
The police dive squad recovered the body of David Allan Fountain (42) from the Pukaki Ohau Canal, near Twizel, this afternoon.
In a statement this evening police said they believed Mr Fountain's car crashed and went into the canal. It was recovered yesterday afternoon.
Mr Fountain was last seen at 1am on Sunday leaving Twizel's Top Hut Hotel, where he had been with a group of workmates.
His family and friends contacted police after he failed to make it to work on Sunday.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
