Trust chairman John Clemens said the trust had received nine high-quality applications and decided to award them all scholarships of $1500 to assist with tertiary course and training costs.
The scholarship recipients were pursuing careers in aviation, teaching, nursing, refrigeration engineering, quantity surveying, sports coaching, environmental management and academia, he said.
Despite challenging financial conditions, which had affected the growth of the fund in the past couple of years, the trust was committed to providing financial assistance to past Pleasant Point primary and high school pupils to help alleviate some of the financial pressure of tertiary education.
The charitable trust was established in 1964.
At that time land next to the school grounds was bought with the aim of establishing an agricultural training centre connected to Pleasant Point High School.
Although the training centre did not eventuate, when the high school closed in 2004 the trust sold the land and invested the funds.
In the past three years it has awarded a total of $48,500 in scholarships to 18 past pupils.
Mr Clemens said the trust’s charitable status also enabled donations and bequests to be added to the fund for future distribution.
