
The Victoria Trust is a housing charity that operates as a supported accommodation provider for people with a mental illness.
The trust own 25 single-bedroom flats in the central Timaru area. Four of those units are flats at 8, 10, 12 and 14 Babington St, comprising one building.
Leaks in the orange clay tile roof were constantly being repaired.
In a statement, manager Brent Morrow said he was thankful for the support and generosity of the community trust.
"This grant will enable us to replace the roof on a block of four of our flats, that is in desperate need of replacing."
Overall, $399,500 was provided to 11 different organisations in the June funding round.
In the Mackenzie district, $23,000 was granted to the Tekapo Trails Society Inc for storytelling panels and $112,500 was granted to the Ashburton district across multiple projects.
In the Timaru district, Te Aitarakihi Society Inc received $50,000 for stage two of its whare extension and the Raincliff Trust Board received $30,000 towards towards its toilet block redevelopment.
Several Waimate district projects also received funding.
Waimate2gether was granted $75,000 for stage one of the Waimate Trail, Friends of Studholme Bush received $25,000 for a wallaby-proof fence, $20,000 was allocated to the Waimate Community Vehicle Trust towards the cost of a new mobility vehicle, and the Waihaorunga district hall was granted $9000 for painting.
Community Trust of Mid and South Canterbury chief executive Tim Barnett said the trust was delighted to have received all manner of requests from throughout the region.
"This funding round is specifically for major projects being developed by organisations which provide key services and opportunities to our community.
"There are increasing cost pressures on charities and not-for-profit groups who provide essential services across our region and we are here to support them.
"Our key message is always that we are here to help."
