Top of the Pops opens tonight and director Robyn Gardner said audiences could well be tempted to sing along with more than 30 chart-topping "bangers" from the 1960s to the present day.
"The challenge we’ve had is to narrow down our list to the current number, as there were so many contenders to be included in the show.
"I’m confident we’ve got a selection — divided by decades — that will please all tastes, and certainly be recognised by everyone as those ‘absolute bangers’ that hook the imagination, and get the feet tapping along."
Mrs Gardner said the production — which would run for eight performances until November 22 — was very excited to have secured special guest star CHARIS, of Wellington.
"CHARIS — aka Grace Clarke — is a young, up-and-coming singer-songwriter who has just returned from Australia where she’s been producing some of her latest songs.

The 21-year-old would be departing Clutha following the show’s closing night, to perform her new material in Wellington.
"She’s a unique voice, and we’re looking forward to her joining the rest of our talented local cast on stage," Mrs Gardner said.
Audiences would be able to enjoy the 90-minute musical fiesta in comfort at the SOTS clubrooms on George St, Balclutha and could pre-order desserts for the night.
Thanks to a Creative NZ grant, the 23 performers would be backed by a state-of-the-art LED screen, bringing Top of the Pops to colourful and vivid life, Mrs Gardner said.
"Our performers have been rehearsing since July, so audiences can look forward a pleasurable, polished, fun night out for all the family."
