Two Clutha service clubs have concluded another successful year in which they collectively returned more than $25,000 to their communities.

The Balclutha Rotary Club reported recently it had made community donations of more than $18,000 in the past year, while the Lawrence Lions Club confirmed more than $7000 had been given to locals and groups from its coffers.

Outgoing Rotary president Tony Simpson said its $18,000 worth of donations equated to about $675 from each of its 27 members.

"Our club can be incredibly proud of this figure. Obviously, this does not include the personal costs of individual Rotarians which, in a number of cases, is high as well."

The club had become involved in a project to enhance the Blair Athol Walkway on the Clutha riverbank which had the potential to become a long-term project.

The last year was also a personal highlight for five individual members awarded Rotary's highest honour, the Paul Harris Fellowship.

This was awarded to Harry Peggie, Ron Farquhar, Cliff Gray, Kevin Henderson and Brian Archbold.

Outgoing Lawrence Lions Club president John Auld said it was in great spirit and this was clearly shown by the more than $7000 it had managed to contribute to the community.

Donations included $2500 to the Lawrence Gymkhana Club for fencing its grounds, $1100 to help the Lawrence Hospital pay for a patient lifter and $1000 for a youth group to travel to Auckland.
