Heavy rain in the Clutha district has caused several road slips.

Clutha District Council roading contractors were out yesterday morning clearing the biggest one so far: a large slip across The Nuggets Rd which came down late on Wednesday afternoon, reducing the road to one lane overnight.

Council communications co-ordinator Sue Wilkins said contractor SouthRoads sent a digger and roading crew to Nugget Point yesterday morning to clear the slip and open the road for travellers and residents of the tiny settlement near Kaka Point.

SouthRoads driver Terry Michie is pictured waiting as digger operator Mark Kingipotike loads up his truck as they work to clear the slip.
