Moore Park, in Milton, has slowly been developed over the past five years to include new cycle tracks, a flying fox and climbing wall for children.
Milton Area Promotions secretary Kay Partridge said the promotions group still had plans to develop the park further but the latest addition of detailed cycle tracks called for celebration.
The work was completed some time ago but now the group wanted to hold its first celebration and fun day as the warmer weather had arrived.
She said the park was a big project for the group and there always seemed to be more work to do.
‘‘It’s probably going to be like the song that never ends.’’
The celebratory fun day will be held at 11am on Sunday, November 5, at Moore Park, Milton.
She hopes it will become an annual fixture.
The park was ‘‘great’’ and children loved it, Mrs Partridge said.
‘‘There are kids there all the time.’’
She did not have exact figures but estimated the material costs would have amounted to at least $80,000 which excluded the ‘‘thousands’’ of hours worth of labour the community had donated.
Some of the trusts and charities which had contributed to fundraising and grants included the Trusts Community Foundation, Otago Motor Club Trust, Milton Rotary Club, George Melville Trust and the local Lions Club.
