Merger still someway off

The prospect of two key Clutha health groups merging, first raised a year ago, was still some way from becoming a reality, their joint annual meetings have heard.

Clutha Health Incorporated, which manages the Clutha Health First facility, and the Otago Southern Region Primary Health Organisation (PHO) first mooted the idea of amalgamation at their joint 2007 annual meeting.

At the 2008 meeting, attended by about 50 people, both bodies admitted that the idea had not developed far over the past year, but both signalled they were keen to see it considered further.

Clutha Health chairman Murray McLean said the two groups were keen to have a "closer relationship, one way or the other".

PHO chairman Walter Dalziel was understanding but somewhat frustrated about the lack of progress towards formalising some kind of merger.
