The celebration of successful up-skilling will return with this year’s Clutha District Training and Development Awards.

Set for Wednesday, November 26, in Balclutha’s Te Pou Ō Mata-Au, the awards recognise people who have completed workplace training, apprenticeships and further education, as well as the employers who invest in developing local skills.

Hosted by Clutha Development and Jobbortunities with support from the mayor’s taskforce for jobs, the evening highlighted the diversity of learning taking place across the district, which in recent years spanned from trades, engineering, tourism, healthcare to leadership as well as advanced technical fields.

"We celebrate the trainees who have put in the hours to learn and the businesses who have provided the support to make that growth possible," Clutha Development business partnership manager Sarita Love said.

"These awards reflect the Clutha District’s commitment to building a skilled, adaptable and thriving workforce," she said.

The 2024 event had a strong showing, with 38 recipients recognised across 14 training organisations and 16 employers.

Qualifications ranged from level 2 to level 7, covering everything from scaffolding to skin cancer medicine.

The evening enables family, friends and colleagues to enjoy a three-course meal and hear from an inspiring speaker as they celebrate the trainees’ hard work and dedication over the past 12 months.

Clutha Development has supported the awards for more than a decade.

The event continues to encourage lifelong learning and strengthen both people and businesses across the district.

Nominations for 2025 are open now to trainees who have completed level 2 or higher qualifications between September 1, 2024 and October 31, 2025.

Nominations can be made to Ms Love at Clutha Development.
