Milton resident Jason Walker points to where he believes the former flour mill is falling into a state of disrepair.

Mr Walker, who can see the mill from his house, said it appeared a section of the mill’s roof had collapsed in the past few weeks.

He said the historic building, built in 1887, was being neglected and something needed to be done.

He said it was significant to the town and its future should be "open for discussion" among the public.

The owner of the former mill is understood to be Dunedin man Ezra Eini. Mr Eini did not return calls.

The former mill has housed various businesses over the years, including a woollen and a flour mill.
