Nominations for the 60th South Canterbury Sport and Recreation Awards are now open.

In a statement, Sport Canterbury’s South Canterbury regional manager Shaun Campbell said the year was a remarkable milestone.

‘‘It’s an honour to celebrate six decades of excellence, dedication and community spirit within our region.’’

‘‘The sport and recreation awards provide a unique opportunity to honour the people and organisations who inspire our community to be more active, more often.

‘‘Their commitment strengthens the fabric of our region,’’ he said.

‘‘Whether you’re an athlete, coach, official or volunteer, your contribution matters.

‘‘We look forward to sharing the stories of those who help sport and recreation thrive in South Canterbury.’’

The nomination period will remain open until 11.59pm on March 31.

Athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers who have made significant contributions in sport and recreation may be nominated.

Sport Canterbury will announce the award finalists across nine categories on April 14.

Winners of the awards — including the newly-named Sporting Legend of South Canterbury, and the recipient of the Outstanding Lifetime Achievement — will be announced at a ceremony on May 8.
