Although it was largely a case of "as you were" during the recent local body elections in Clutha, four new faces join the council later this month. Richard Davison asked them about their style of communication and leadership, and what their incoming priorities are.Dane Catherwood (Catlins ward)

Communication style, I would class myself as assertive, always happy to listen to community, and more than happy to find results/solutions within common-sense principles. I'm always keen to give a hand or assist in other forms if tied up.

Core infrastructure and services are top priority, while maintaining rates affordability.

I would like to think my style is listening to all sides of the story or situation before making an informed decision on it.

I have come with no agenda, only to do my best for this role and for the district. I hope to help the younger people living in the district by encouraging them to stay and make our towns places for them to live, shop and enjoy what the district has to offer. As there are projects under way, I look forward to working with experienced councillors and, being a newbie, would like to bring some new ideas.

I believe I am a good listener and that my communication style is open, fair and honest. I think the best leaders are those who get their hands dirty, but can also facilitate a strong community vision towards achievable goals.

The Clutha district as a whole needs to continue to address the severe housing shortage which impacts on all parts of society - economy, employment, social issues, health/wellbeing and tourism. In my ward we will also face the challenge of the Clutha Gold Trail extension, how we support infrastructure around that, and ensuring it benefits our region.

I am an approachable person, who enjoys engaging in conversations openly and honestly. I respect other people's opinions and am prepared to listen and take suggestions forward.

Firstly I would like to familiarise myself with current projects and the annual plan. We need to continue to advocate for the Clutha district in a positive direction, to encourage residents and visitors to work, play and stay.
