Rosebank Primary School pupil Sophie Mills (9) has become the only year 4 pupil nationwide to win a writing medal in a University of New South Wales educational competition.
Sophie received her medal at the school's final assembly yesterday and was delighted.
It was the second top writing honour bestowed upon her in the space of eight months.
In April, she won a national young writers' competition when she scooped the 8 years-and-under section of a contest offered by the Christchurch-based School 4 Young Writers.
Her latest success puts her in the top 1% of New Zealand children who sat the test and she was the only medallist for year 4 pupils nationwide.
The university's programme operates across 13 countries.
Rosebank principal Chris Morris said the school was incredibly proud of Sophie and her achievements.
