Multi-term mayor Bryan Cadogan will be retiring, meaning present deputy mayor Ken Payne and Lawrence Tuapeka Ward councillor Jock Martin will contest the chains of the top office.
Four newcomers will run against Cr Wayne Felts for his, and one other Balclutha Ward seat, and no less than six candidates have their eye on the single Milton Ward seat.
A total of 37 candidates were received for the 22 elected member roles and at least one nomination failed to finish processing at council chambers before last Friday’s noon deadline.
There will be no elections in the Catlins, Kaitangata-Matau and West Otago wards, which each had a single nomination, and there were five nominations for the Clutha Licensing Trust, which does not require an election.
