The Balclutha mental health team will be going on a nature walk as part of Mental Health Awareness week.
The theme for this year’s awareness week, which starts today, is "nature is key".
As part of raising the awareness for mental health in the Clutha area, Southern Rivers Mental Health occupational therapist Karen Donoghue said the health team in Balclutha would be going on a "nature walk" from Naish Park to the Balclutha Bridge on Wednesday.
The team will be there at noon, "rain or shine", and she encouraged others to join them in the walk as it was open to everybody.
"The reason we chose the walk is because it’s something accessible to anyone in the community," she said.
Being in the outdoors and getting exercise helped improve mental health and mood as well as reduce stress levels.
Awareness about mental health was growing and there had been "quite a push" to look at what support there was for farming communities.
The Southern Rivers mental health team had previously taken part in Mental Health Awareness Week and tried to do something different each year to fit the theme.
