Some of the country's top quilters are showing off their work at a small Owaka studio before finding out who is the best of the best.

Catlin Quilts is exhibiting 20 quilts as part of the New Zealand Hoffman Challenge - an annual event where quilters compete to make a quilt using a designated piece of fabric which must be incorporated in the work.

Catlin Quilt owner Noeline Johnston, who organises the national event, said the quality this year was again very high.

The top 20 entries are on display in her studio before being carefully wrapped up and taken to a national competition at Picton on April 12.

The quilts are on display at Catlin Quilts 9am to 5.30pm weekdays and 10am and 4pm on weekends.
