On the track for fun

The first of hundreds of riders head off on the 17th annual Lakes To Sea trail ride in Milton on Saturday morning.

The riders of all ages and abilities rode for more than 140km over a mixture of forestry tracks and farmland from Milburn, out to Chrystalls Beach on the coast and back again.

Riding for a time along Chrystalls beach was counted by many riders as a highlight of the very popular trail ride known for its wide variety of tracks.

Held as a major fundraiser each year for the Tokomairiro High School Parent Teacher Association, it draws in riders from as far afield as Wanaka and Invercargill.

The ride is open to all off-road motorcycles, quad bikes, ATVs and UTVs and riders get to choose between easy, medium or harder tracks for those more confident in their own off-road abilities.

A team of more than 35 marshals, made up of members of the Tokomairiro PTA and volunteers, also monitored the event along its route, helping those having any problems with their navigation or machines.
