The Milton Rotary Club and Otago Youth Adventure Trust Tramping Club wound up the long and winding cycle trail in Waihola at 1pm last Thursday.

The 13 bikepackers and four leaders began the full journey from Roxburgh the previous Monday, and had left Lawrence at about 8.15am that morning.

"We’ve been using the cycle trails for years and were keen to include the Clutha Gold Trail extension as soon as it was ready," ride co-leader David Vollweiler said.

Beginning with a family and friends tramping trip 38 years ago, the Milton Rotary Club and the Otago Youth Adventure Trust has raised over $2.5million and now runs up to 23 New Zealand and international outdoor trips every year.

"We loved every minute of it and we’re really looking forward to a time when we can ride it all the way from Queenstown to Dunedin," Mr Vollweiler said.
