A 30-year-old woman has admitted being an accessory to the murder of South Otago youth Michael Hutchings whose body was found in the Clutha River in early January.

The woman, who still has name suppression, was the second of two people to plead in relation to the killing of 18-year-old Mr Hutchings whose body was recovered from the river on January 12.

He had been stabbed in the neck and abdomen, his body wrapped in a white bed cover, tied with black nylon and weighted with two heavy metal bars.

The woman, had been jointly charged, with a 38-year-old man, with murdering Mr Hutchings near Kaitangata between January 3 and 12.

She appeared before Justice John Fogarty in the High Court in Dunedin this morning and pleaded guilty to an amended charge of being an accessory after the fact to the murder.

Her co-accused who also has name suppression, pleaded guilty to the murder charge on August 7.

Both are remanded in custody for sentence on September 25 but, because some disputed facts about the woman's involvement are to be the subject of a hearing that day, sentencing of both offenders may be delayed.

She and the man are also facing trial on a separate charge of raping a 15-year-old girl on December 28 last year. A date for that hearing has yet to be decided.
