Southern police seize drugs, firearms

Police swooped on three southern addresses today, seizing methampetamine with a street value of $30,000, along with firearms and other illicit drugs.

Search warrants were executed in Kaka Point, Clinton and Balclutha as a result of a joint operation conducted by the Balclutha CIB and the Dunedin Organised Crime Squad.

The operation, run over the past six weeks, is related to the distribution of methamphetamine in the Dunedin, Clutha and Southland areas.

Two 50-year-old men, one from Kaka Point and the other from Balclutha, and a 28-year-old Clinton man have been arrested.

They will appear in the Dunedin District Court on charges of conspiracy to supply methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine for supply.

A passenger was also detained on an incoming flight from Auckland to Dunedin this afternoon.

"The community are well aware of the harm that methamphetamine causes," Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Inglis, of the Southern District Organised Crime Squad, said.

"It continues to be one of the worst drugs within our community. Southern Police will continue to target the distribution of methamphetamine as it is known to be a contributing factor to many violent crimes within NZ society."
