A man who assaulted his partner was taken into custody by the armed offenders squad at a rural Southland location yesterday, police said yesterday.
The AOS was deployed to a property on Thornbury-Waimatuku Road, Southland, about 7.45am, following a report of a domestic violence incident there.
Senior Sergeant Maggie Windle, of Invercargill, said a female was assaulted by the male, who was heavily intoxicated.
She confirmed the male was in possession of a stun Taser but this was ''not used against anyone at the time''.
Two children were also present during the incident - a 12-year-old and a 10-year-old. She said the man also severely damaged the victim's vehicle, and was later arrested by the AOS.
The 37-year-old was charged with male assaults female, intentional damage, unlawful possession of firearm/restricted weapon, excess breath-alcohol, and possession of cannabis.
He appeared in the Invercargill District Court yesterday and was remanded in custody.
