Co-op shop ready for Christmas

Work is progressing well on Clinton's new co-op shop and it is expected to be operating next month.

Clinton Community Company chairman John Cochrane said the shop should be open before Christmas.

The cladding was up and the inside of the building was being painted this week.

The shop would be community owned and stock "food to go", limited groceries, and seasonal farm supplies.

It would also be a depot for Clutha Vets.

The shop is expected to be named The Clinton Express, and is the second stage of the community service station project.

The re-established Clinton petrol station opened last June as a self-service 24-hour fuel stop, selling RD Petroleum fuel.
